Worms
Beastly Wiggly Things
Here is another four letters word: WORM! It is really funny but in some families the mother regularly doses up her children for WORMS! And in some families no body ever thinks that worm infestation could even be a problem.
So which one should it be? Do we get worms or not? Children are bound to get worms unless they live in a sterile bubble. But so can adults. It is so easy to pick up worms when you are gardening with soil stuck under your nails, or even by eating a nice carrot without having first washing it thoroughly.
You can usually tell when a child has worms because he often suffers from anal itching - especially at night because this is the time when the little beggars (oxyuris being their official name) come out. It is important to prevent the child from scratching himself or herself because this is one of the reinfestation routes.
Natural Ways to Control Worms:
- One way to prevent worm infestation is to keep up the garlic intake in the diet.
- Giving them regular doses of tincture of Wormwood (eight drops in a little water for three days on an empty stomach and then repeat for three weeks) can help too.
- Pumpkin seed oil is an absolute knock out. It will get rid of most parasites, in most species, most of the time. You might have difficulty finding it, but if you can, ten drops given in the same frequency as the Wormwood will dispose of most infestations. Because this oil is actually reasonably nice tasting (it is quite nutty) you can dose the whole family by adding a mere teaspoon to the family salad or soup. A teaspoon is enough for a family of four. Again, repeat as above.
- It is a good idea to treat the whole family at the same time to avoid continual cross-infection.
Procedure With Chemical Products
If you or your child suffers from a serious worm infestation and you want to use a pharmacy bought drug, here is how to make the most of it.
- Do the procedure on a weekend.
- The night before you dose the family have a very light dinner, like soup and fruit salad.
- Next morning give the anti-worm medication on an empty stomach following the dosage on the box.
- Wait for an hour or so then give every one a dose of Epsom salts.
- Then you can have your breakfast!
Do not automatically think that worms are responsible for changes in your child such as irritability, loss of appetite, increase in appetite, swollen belly. These symptoms always need to be viewed in a broader context.
