Underweight

Have you noticed that people who cannot gain weight get no sympathy either? If you say: “It does not matter what I eat, I can't put on weight!” People tend to give you a dirty look in the same way as if you had said: “Oh! It does not matter how much money I spend I'm too rich!” It is seen as a lucky thing somehow.

But nothing could be further from the truth. People who can't put on weight suffer from an absorption problem and this means that they are not getting the goodness out of the food and they run into terrible deficiencies. Of course it is useless for them to take supplements because the body can't absorb them either. These people actually run a greater risk of becoming really sick if they catch something because there is not much reserve they can count on.

This is really important especially with young children, because if they don't absorb the nutrients in their food properly, they cannot grow healthily. How often have you seen these skinny little kids with dark rings under their eyes who are listless and don't want to muck around like their friends? These children are probably suffering from malabsorption problem. Of course this does not apply to kids who eat like horses, run around like maniacs, are very playful and have no problem sleeping. They just burn their food. You only need to be concerned if the child eats a lot but is very thin and listless.

So if you or a member of your family has ‘hollow legs' what you need to do is improve the way your gut absorbs food. For this you need to take a product such as Inner Health to coat, repair and build up the good flora in your gut. You also need to drink teas such as:

Thyme, rosemary, sage, chamomile and gentian and put these herbs as well as basil and oregano in your food as well. Turmeric is also a very good spice to improve digestion.

One excellent herb you MUST have is Fenugreek. The way to use it is to make the tea at night by boiling the seeds for one minute then leave it overnight. Strain and drink the next day. You need to drink two to three cups a day. You need one heaped teaspoon of seeds per cup of water.

You also need to check if any food causes irritation to your bowels. If you are intolerant to a certain food the gut can become hypersensitive and eventually reacts to EVERYTHING. The best things to stop first are breakfast cereals such as cornflakes with milk and sugar. Stop all dairy products, white bread and white pasta.

Do not stuff yourself with cakes and sweet things in the hope that this will make you put on weight, all they will do is irritate your gut and liver even more. You need to eat a balanced diet. It is strange, but to put the weight ON, you need to do the same things as to take it OFF: get rid of junk, sugar and white flour products and eat lots of fresh foods and protein. The only difference is you should eat a little more protein, but once again: you won't be able to absorb the protein if the gut is irritated. So start from the beginning.
