Burns

Here is a very good way to deal with burns. Many burns occur in the kitchen, your first aid manual will tell you run cold water on the burn, do that: it's also good not only for cooling the skin but washing oil or any material that may have been on your skin. But once you have let the cold tap run for a while, the really good thing is to put vinegar on the burn. Yes, plain old vinegar, pour it on the burn then wet a wad of paper (kitchen towels are good) generously with the vinegar and keep it in contact for ten minutes, as the compress gets warmer top it up with fresh vinegar

Another thing to do is to put cold water in a bucket (about 3 to 4 litres) add two cups of vinegar (once again, the cheap white vinegar is fine) and soak the burn limb. You will be surprised how well it will cool.

Now comes stage two: if you have Aloe vera growing at home, cut the leaf in half and generously slather the burn with it. If you only grow one pot plant this should be it. If you don't have the plant it's easy enough to buy the gel, except that most of them have alcohol in them and they are not as good as the fresh thing. Go to bed with Aloe vera on the burn, if it stings again, soak in the water/vinegar bath. You'll probably have to repeat the soak the next day and keep putting on the Aloe vera. This will help prevent the skin from blistering and getting infected. Attend to it and you will be amazed.

DO NOT PUT OILY STUFF ON ANY BURN!!!

When the inflammation is all gone and there has been no blister but your skin now looks like that of an old elephant, now is the time to put a healing ointment. You might want to try ‘ Aunty Elyane's Universal Panacea '
