Bruises
A NOBLE ROLE FOR THE HUMBLE SPUD
Ouch! It always amazes me that a fifty years old granny like me can be so clumsy. I just run to answer the phone and slammed my foot on the metal leg of the computer chair. Most clumsy mortals would now be sporting the beginning of a very black bruise but not I, because I have potatoes!
The anti-inflammatory role of the humble spud is not very well known in our modern days but it is a really old folk remedy in Europe and in China. For any bruises, bashes, knocks, twists, sprains you can always count on the potato.
The way you use it could not be simpler. Let say you just slammed your finger in a car door, or a 400 kilos horse just stepped on your big toe when you were trying to give her acupuncture (don’t you DARE laugh! It happened to me) and you can almost see your finger or toe swell and throb the way they do in cartoons. Well, no worries! Just wrap the injured bit with grated RAW potato (any potato, with an ordinary household grater), then wrap the arrangement with plastic wrap; put a bandage on it to keep it all under control and to catch the drips that will form. Change the potato every two or three hours or leave it over night. You will be surprised that the injury will not swell and you will have a minimum of pain and bruising. Simple, cheap and perfectly effective.
