Golden Rules of Self Help
Golden Rules of Self Help
- Don’t go off half-cocked. Just because you have read an article about a frightful disease and it would appear that you have all the symptoms, it does not mean you have the disease: proper diagnosis is very important.
- If you are already on medication do not stop it because of a heroic desire to ‘be natural’. The body becomes terribly dependant on medications such as high blood pressure drugs or asthma drugs. If you stop them at once, you are setting yourself up for a crisis. True, there are alternatives to medical drugs but they must result from an intelligent programme.
- Beware the miracle cure. Every week there is some ‘miracle’ product advertised in the media. These products are only good for making huge amounts of money to their manufacturers. Try the simple easy remedy first.
- Be cool with self-medication. Because a supplement is good for certain things, it does not mean it is good for everything, and because a dose of something works, twice the prescribed amount does not make it work better or faster. On the contrary, taking too much of anything is usually counter-productive.
- Be patient. ‘Going with natural therapies’ means that we don’t hide symptoms, this means that you won’t get rid of what ever is bugging you straight away, you might even feel worse at first. However when the symptoms start to subside, this is usually the sign that you are improving.
